About Us

Mulder + Kennedy Architects is a creative urban practice established in 1993 by Henk Mulder and Rosemary Kennedy. The partners have more than forty years combined experience designing buildings throughout Australia and internationally. Our projects range from widely-visited public buildings, commercial spaces, with large and small-scale residential alterations.

Our design solutions are innovative, resource-conscious, climate-responsive, and user-friendly.

Our Mission

We design valuable and memorable places for you.

Our Service

Our design service is personal, direct, transparent, and accessible.

Each and every project we undertake, whether large or small, receives distinctive design attention.

This service means timely, valuable, and relevant, and includes:

Collaborating with our clients to deliver valuable solutions that serve them memorably. We listen well in order to understand the possibilities of each particular design problem, and to convert ideas into outcomes;

Providing advice, research, information, ideas, programmes, coordination and readily recommending suppliers, tradies, builders, even removalists;

Identifying our clients’ needs and preferences, and turning your constraints into design opportunities that work well for you. We describe the potential pathways to resolution and develop design both practical and aesthetically pleasing solutions; providing immediate gains, long-term benefits and value.

Typically the range of issues we can readily develop with your initial discussions will include the following:

• Scale, type, complexity, goals and issues, team members, sustainability. • Site, history and context review overlaid with approvals, as desktop and field work, zoning and planning issues, infrastructure, utilities, aspect/prospect/context, existing conditions, micro-climate. • Detailed coordination of search information – soil, infrastructure, surveying, engineering of civil, structure, mechanical, electrical, and acoustic works, interior architecture, landscaping, materials research, budget estimating. • Construction and project values, with a programme can round off the earliest discussions for getting involved in using architecture to best fit the requirements for cost, time scale use, aesthetics, as criteria evolves and becomes important.

We explain the design process and produce design drawings relevant to requirements. We coordinate additional services, trades, and builders, with tendering and contract administration for fuss-free completion of works on site.

Testimonials

"When we met with Henk Mulder for the first site visit, we were surprised that he didn’t take any notes.

It became clear, however, that he had paid close attention to what was important to us because he came up with preliminary plans that not only met our requirements perfectly, but also made the most of a difficult site. For what is essentially a small house, the subtleties of the design and the way the building has been integrated into the bushland setting give a feeling of spaciousness one would expect to find only in a much larger house." Roy and Trisch

"Just a brief note to say Thank You again for all your wonderful work for our development, and to let you know we sold Aptmt 2 today and Aptm 3 is under contract!"  Linda O
